STEM in the Schoolyard

The RoboChargers were asked by our lead sponsor Texas Instruments to partner with them, United Way, and Dallas ISD for a STEM in the Schoolyard event at Comstock Middle School on October 24th. This event kicked off the fall United Way Campaign for Texas Instruments, as well as provided additional STEM exposure to over 100 DISD Middle School students.

Koopa, our 2016 FRC robot, made the trip out for the demo. The 6″ diameter pneumatic tires and snappy drivetrain made it more versatile for outdoor events. We saw 12 small groups of students, and spoke with each group about Robotics and Engineering, and how their STEM classes are important for their future. We finished by letting students race against the robot! While Koopa was still a bit slower than the students, everyone had a blast.

We also intended to put together a few video clips, but Dallas ISD News beat us to the punch! Both Koopa as well as the Dallas BEST Hub get good coverage throughout the video below.
